What is more important to you on your phone in terms of mail features?

My Blackberry is broken & there's nothing I can do.

About 6 months ago I purchased a brand new Blackberry 7290 (with Bluetooth) for around $600. I also purchased a Blackberry Exchange Server for Voodoo for about $3000 + the server, + Microsoft Exchange, and I've been spending about $3000 a month (yes a month) on my Rogers bill because of all the data I move and voice calls I make. Granted this amount is for two devices because we have two BB users in the office, but still - these rates are nuts. As many of you know, Blackberry data plans aren't cheap - but they are indispensable tools of business.

Anyways, my Blackberry is failing. It's not making calls properly, it keeps cutting out when I'm on the phone - and good luck in getting a call to me. Just ask Frank from Nvidia. He called me one day and it got so frustrating after about the tenth time it cut out we pretty much forgot what we were talking about. His last call was “Your phone is a piece of @*#” then the stupid thing cut out again.

My dealer won't replace the device, and they don't have the new ones out yet for me to buy. When I think about it, this thing is less than a year old and it's costing me more money than ever. I can't imagine why they wouldn't replace it; don't they make more money when I make calls?

If someone from RIM is reading this it would be nice if you could send me one of the above devices. Otherwise I have resigned myself to not buying the above Blackberry.

Instead I'm going to wait for Motorola to release their Q; I'll dump my Blackberry Exchange Server and go with Microsoft Exchange extensions for free. I'm glad to see Microsoft picked up on this and teamed up with Motorola. It seems like a lethal combination.

I'll make sure the next device I purchase is unlocked so I can choose a network that doesn't charge drug-money for a data and voice plan. I'm surprised Rogers doesn't send me a bill inlaid in gold and platinum print. Heck, at the prices I pay for my plan I expect someone wearing white gloves to hand deliver my bill on a silver platter. Either that or toss in an ounce of gold in every envelope.

This is very frustrating.

For the amount that it cost, it should work perfectly well, and beyond.

you should really speak to your rogers dealer's supervisor. he/she should be doing more to help your situation.

:) Yes.... Thats a ton of money, explains why I dont even have one yet...

The best I have is a wrist watch and a note pad. Mechanical pencil though... so it is pretty high tech.

Yeah that is pretty insane, if I was putting out that kind of money at least I'd want it going to a worthy cause... hah.

Before you dive headfirst into the motorola Q check out this link. http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pp1_loader&php=php1_10336&zone=pp&lm=pp1&pid=10336

In the last year Motorola has been releasing product that is eye pleasing but has fallen short of its objective. I give you this link to Sonys next offering because with the W800i sony killed the Rockr. This will probably not be the first time Companies like sony and nokia do this.

P.S. I am a cell phone dealer that sells recently released unlocked product And will probably carry both products when they come out at below cost.

Good Blog, but let's be fair to on who gets the blame for getting screwed here. You paid 3,000 for a Blackberry server that comes with 10 user licenses, but is designed to support like +2,000 users - at least. It was your choice to put together a Blackberry/Exchange Infrastructure for 2 users. THAT'S INSANE!

As for $3Gs a month, you're gonna need therapy to get over the monthly raping your cell dealer is giving you. We pay $150/month for unlimited data to our Bberries, and a pretty standard voice plan (800 minutes, unlimited NAW) from Verizon.

Yeah, the dealer should definitely replace your blackberry -no question there.

Some additional information about your post.

The device comes with a 1 yr warranty by the manufacture and that will always be honored when the carrier rep denies the claim. As to the 3K for the software there is a small business edition that would have set you back 1.5K for five users, but you got a bit off list (25%) for the full server and 20 users (assuming US dollars).

Hope this info helps.

P.S. That 8700 series is pretty sweet
