CES: Fudo from The Inquirer

We had a memorable meeting with Fudo from the Inquirer at CES. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him I suggest you try to at the next show. Fudo has quite a sense of humor, but generally speaking he is quite enthusiastic about his work. He’s is easily recognizable as anyone who knows him knows this all too well.

We spoke about the graphics industry and future trends. Both of us are quite in tune with the market, though Fudo tends to cover ATi while someone else on the Inquirer staff covers NVIDIA. What I didn’t realize is that the code name “Fudo” for R520 had nothing to do with Fudo from the Inquirer. I was quite certain ATi code named their chipset after Fudo – but this isn’t the case.

Apparently Fudo means something in some foreign language; perhaps someone at ATi can send me the official explanation about this later.

So, Fudo wanted to setup a brief discussion with me. We went into the meeting room and Fudo started the conversation. This conversation is probably only funny if you know Fudo.

Fudo: “Rahul, I really want to work closely with you, and I have some suggestions as to how we can do this.”

Rahul: “Okay, what would you like Fudo?” (not expecting his answer)

Fudo: “Rahul, I want you to send me the hardware that you get and let me test it and I’ll send….”

Rahul: “Fudo, you’re crazy! You know I can’t do that…” (it was about this point that I started to laugh uncontrollably).

Fudo: “Do what?”

Rahul: “Do what??”

Fudo: “Okay, nevermind that, let’s talk about your business… How is Voodoo doing?”

This was the beginning of an interesting interview. We spoke about AMD and their position in the notebook market. We also spoke about the ATi vs NVIDIA debate and how things are playing out there. Mostly we just spoke about the new products that Voodoo is releasing and our general confusion over VIIV.

Generally speaking everyone in this industry reads The Inquirer. We all have it on our bookmarks, and it’s probably one of the most read daily news websites on the internet. Fudo is a regular contributer and keeps his focus on the graphics business.

Hi Rahul, I just arrived from CES too. I feel better know that I found out everyone feels confused about ViiV. I'll be meeting the Intel guys tomorrow, maybe they can explain it to me with even more drawings :P

Congrats! You make a great work, I saw some of your computers in CES :D

Fudo no relation to Feeboo......

I went to a all gaming party a few years ago where they had whole whack of Xboxes networked for Halo all over a multi level 5000 sq foot home. I had brought my 11 year old son with me because I thought he would love all the computers and classic video games this friend of mine owns. (I was little nervous bringing my son since this was more of a adult party clearly)

My son took off to enjoy the games and I immediatley chatted with the guests. A hour or so goes by and I take a interest in the Halo game on one of the nearby plasma displays. This guy "Feeboo" has everyone upset. He is quite a good player and is way out in front with the most kills amongst 12 players. I hear comments like "I'm gonna get that Feeboo"..and "Feeboo must die" I wander around the house and it is the same everywhere. Everyone is vocal about "getting Feeboo" I finally stumble across my 11 year old son he quite relaxed in a out of way corner of a room at a office desk where there is a Xbox and only one controller. From his reclined posistion I can see he is playing the same game and calmy racking up all the kills with a bored look on his face. HE is Feeboo! I laughed a long time.=)
