I was contacted by a few people today for my opinion on the "sudden change in management" at AMD - this is just not exactly portrayed properly. I thought I would take a minute to clarify – this way I can just point people to my site.
First, I should say that customers and channel partners who understand AMD's business support this news.
Dirk was President and COO of AMD's Microprocessor business prior to Spansion's IPO on Dec. 21. Without Spansion as part of AMD, this is somewhat of an evolutionary change vs. huge change in leadership. Therefore we can assume that there was a President and COO of Spansion prior to the IPO.
Dirk is notorious for his amazing technical expertise, as well as his integrity, outstanding leadership skills and focus he brings to AMD. He has been employed at AMD for approximately 11 years.
One could surmise that the top three executives at AMD are Hector Ruiz, Dirk Meyer, and Henri Richard.
Hector still is very much CEO and running AMD. However, by sharing the leadership role with Hector, Dirk will most likely take on more leadership of some administration functions, the field sales organization, etc.
This position change creates a true CEO platform for Hector - which should be viewed as positive news...

I think this will be just great for Dr. Ruiz, at least he can take care of being a CEO 24/7. As an hispanic I'm really proud of Hector's job in the IT industry. Hope AMD has something good in between hands to be a good oposition to the blue folks that have more than something nice in their labs.
