Yes, it is true - Thanks in part to HP, AMD has raced to over 80% market share in the retail space. There is little doubt that the retail team at AMD is enjoying their success, and I imagine they will continue to push hard to stay ahead of the game well into 2007.
The story at CNET News.com tells all.
As an aside, Acer pretty much owns the channel in Canada when it comes to notebooks. The Toshiba guys are left scratching their heads wondering what happened. I expect Acer is now concentrating on their U.S. presence, so we should see the same profound effect in the U.S. over the next couple of years. Acer is also a huge supporter of AMD Turion 64.

What I would like to see more of in Canada and the states are Asus and MSI laptops. I got my Asus z70Va in the summer and it simply blows away everything that the competiton has to offer. The ability to customize the laptop is great, and for less than 2 grand in the summer, I got a sexy laptop with 2ghz Pentium m, 1 gig ram, dvd burner, bluetooth, wifi, ir, 100 gigs and a x700 128meg. Thing is, hardly any stores in all of Canada carry them. The North american market could really use these great bang for buck guys that you usualyl only see in asia.
81.5%? We all know that AMD is doing significantly better in the desktop market than Intel, but THAT much better? I remember it was not at all long ago when 18.5% was considered impressive for AMD...
And Intel's notebook market share seems to be surprisingly low...only 63%? I thought it was more like, well, 83%, probably even more...
I am the fastest 100 meter sprinter in this room. But that doesn't really have to make me fast...
Please feel free to delete my post if you don't like links like these, but I just don't like unbalanced halfthruth news as this can be looked on as.
