Looks like I might have called it...

So after writing this article on the pending Alienware-Dell deal I received a ton of emails and comments. I didn’t realize it would be so controversial – after all this is just a blog and it’s not like I would write something unless I had good reason to believe in it.

It looks like I might be right on the money and this deal may be announced fairly soon.

There are many implications that will come out of this acquisition which I will get into later, but the bottom line is it looks like Charlie from the Inquirer will end up wearing the bunny suit.

Thank God for that.

All I can say is, I hope it means Alienwares will be made in smaller cases. My Area 51 barely fits under my desk, but the new Dell I just got leaves plenty of space in the little spot designed for the tower.

You're prediction abilities definitely seem to be spot on.

Or, one could be a conspiracy theorist and state that you knew this all along *AND* are the anonymous informant for Cnet. One could regard the whole stunt as a machiavellian scheme to increase your clout within the IT world and publicly humiliate an archrival (ie: bunny suit).

;)

Either way, I commend you.

Q: Has Voodoo seen an influx of resumes from Alienware folks?

I simple don't get along with Dell, I've been screw'd in the past. I only buy from a few computer companies, now it looks like I'll be turing my business over to you guys. Voodoo PC here I come! I know you guys won't sell out to Dell, or at least I hope.

I'll believe it when it's announced. I trust anonymous sources about as much as far as I can throw a one ton anvil. Which is, not at all.

"I'd suggest you take that speculation with a grain of salt given the origin stated in the blog (Alienware's competitor)--you can never be sure what the motivation is."

-Paul McKeon, Dell Australia and New Zealand spokesperson

HA! Looks like Dell believes your blog to be a machiavelian plot as mentioned in my above comment.

While this has not been made ''offical'' yet, I can't say I'm that suprised by it either.
These two companies seemed to be heading for this for some time now.
Dull has been seeking the 'zing' of a so-called 'boutique vendor' (the XPS line) and Alienware has been seeking 'to go more mainstream' (their machines appearing in Best Buy).
Hopefully (for them) this will be like Ford owning Jaguar. Ford has done SOME changes to Jaguar but pretty much left them to be themselves.
My gut instinct says that Dull will quickly 'absorb' Alienware. In other words it will look on the outside like a Alienware machine but inside it will be a Dull XPS. And as far as customer service is concerned it would be a Dull.
For you that would be wonderful news indeed.
To put it bluntly, the (shall we say) QUITE tarnished reputation that Dull has earned will rub off on Alienware. 'Nuff said...

Isn't Alienware a competitor? Doesn't it help RS's company to spread any FUD that would prevent people from buying an Alienware unit? Just pointing out that if this turns all out to be a dud, that somebody should be a little more careful when spreading rumors that benefit their company.

Well all I can say is that if in fact this deal does go through, I am going to order an Alienware. Dell has been good to me. The quad sli system looks too juicy for me to resist. Though I think the fact that the cards are not DX 10 capable will prevent me from getting one.
