What is more important to you on your phone in terms of mail features?

Goodbye Outlook, Hello Gmail

Happy Fourth of July everyone! I had a great time out here in the Seattle area. The Weather is amazing, and man Americans loves them some fireworks!

I had to ask myself why I was using Outlook after years and years of email usage. The main reason I liked Outlook was because of Exchange and being able to sync my inbox, contacts, and calender through a wireless device. The other reason I liked outlook was because my mailbox always stayed constant with me.

There were many reasons why I dislike using Outlook. I cannot take my archives with me anywhere I go on any device I own, I cannot use alias addresses with different "reply to" email addresses, the search feature sucks even with Xobni, and on it goes. You're talking to someone who lives on email and relies on multiples domains with multiple addresses. I keep every single email I send and receive, but using Outlook I sometimes wonder why. It takes way too long to search for any specific email - and no matter how hard I try, after a large archive file the thing always takes forever to load.

So finally I decided to give Gmail another chance. What an amazing program. I now have all my personal domains setup on gmail. The "one-click-archive" feature is amazing, it simply takes the mail out of my inbox and throws it in the archive. The search feature is, well, Google, and it works just like it should. You can search emails based on any keyword that you might remember --- it's flawless. The most amazing thing about Gmail is it not only allows me to setup custom domains without any hassle, but the reply-to addresses also stay the same. It syncs with any device, including the Iphone using the Microsoft Exchange protocol.

Once you start using the new Gmail I can almost guarantee you'll never worry about using another mail service again. The *only* reason Outlook is still on my computer is for my HP related email, otherwise it would be long gone.

What more can I say. Gmail is amazing, and it works seamlessly with Google Docs, another set of applications that I am starting to use over Microsoft Office. I never thought I would say that. I always thought Office was the most important application on my PCs, but lately I realize through collaboration with colleagues and working on various projects, Google Docs & Gmail are silent killers. All it takes is you giving them a chance, working with them, and you'll likely never go back.
