So when I couldn't take the slowness anymore, I picked up an XPS 600 at launch since it was less than $3000 even with the 20 inch LCD digital widescreen. Plus the XPS only support queue is a nice perk.

The problem was that it pretty much came DOA, while the shipping box and packing was fine the media card reader was three inches into the case (it must has shifted), the DVD writer wasn't appearing under hardware profiles and after the first boot, it never came back up. I did however dig the lights on the case.

Now Dell did me right, they returned the system and let me keep the monitor for a small up charge that was still way less than the if I bought the monitor by itself while I tried to figure out my next purchase.

I ended up going with an AMD X2 4400 with SLI system from XI Computer since they were able to customize it to my specs and delier it to me for a lower price (due in part to AMD's chip prices) before I could get another XPS 600.

- Start whinning here -
I wish I had the coin for an Omen..
- End whine -
But it will be interesting to see how the XPS line picks off those fringe consummers who might go with a high end build. Especialy if they suck it up and sell AMDs in their rigs (you can get them in the Dell shop which is just odd)

Thanks for the post Rahul

now we need something xps level in a 5lb package. ...

now we need something xps level in a 5lb package. His mom got it for him for a high school graduation present. He built a computer about 3 months later because his "gaming laptop" wouldn't even run COD without making you go insane. To me every Dell gaming computer has been a dissapointment. I was just at their website and it was basically 5 grand to build something decent (still had Intel in it though, boo). Dell in the gaming business just doesn't make sense because anyone who doesn't want to build their own will shop at alienware or voodoo or somethign like that. With dell you also get that crappy Dell bios thing where you cannot change anything.

Apple may have a "cool" look but if you want to play a game ever (besides WoW and Warcraft 3) good luck.
